Sports day takes place in most primary schools at this time of year.
It is a special day and lives long in the memories of our young pupils in Ireland long after the fantastic English and math lessons are forgotten.
Sports day 2017 will forever be in the heart of our teacher Mary Lonergan.
Mary is retiring on 30th June 2017 after a long and successful career of primary teaching.
She worked in Cork and Roscrea and then has served as teacher at St Brendans PS for the past 20 years.
Along with being an amazing teacher , Mary has a great passion for sports and their value to a healthy lifestyle.
Each year her sports day that she organises in our school is a highlight of the school year for many pupils.
It is all team based and focuses on participation and enjoyment with fair-play and encouragement awards presented along with the standard prizes.
Pictured is Mary last Friday at her final sports day with us with some boys from our senior classes- the smiles tell the story by themselves.

CPR -First responder training 2017
We were delighted to link up with Birr responders again this year to upskill in the area of CPR and First Aid. The staff of the school did after-school sessions with David McEvoy and all agreed that it was an excellent course to do and a great skill to have in life.
David then organized Ross and Christina to do a day course with our 6th class pupils and their parents. The boys really got stuck and we were delighted to have so many parents attend. Thanks to Ms.Treacy, Rose Harte and Carambola for the tea and sandwiches. Sincere thanks to Birr Responder group for being so generous with their time and expertise. David McEvoy pledged to try train 1000 people this year and I believe our school brought him near 700 so that’s fantastic going to all concerned.

Green flag awarded to St Brendan’s PS 2017
St Brendan’s PS were awarded their 5th Green Flag from An Taisce this month at the regional awards ceremony in Athlone. This was the culmination of 2 years work by our fantastic Green Schools committee led by teachers Sarah Pilkington and Paula Doyle. The committee was made up of pupils from each of our older classes. Jack and Dylan travelled to Athlone representing the boys and they look fab in full uniform as well—fair play lads! Pictured also is Mieke Scholte who is our long standing support from An Taisce. The committee will celebrate in style with lunch down town before June and we hope to raise the flag on the last day of this term—Friday 30th June,
Their green code for this flag was—
