December 19th dawned a foggy, damp, miserable day. Not much to want to get out of bed for! However the boys of St. Brendan’s were glad they had rolled out of bed that morning because shortly after 12 noon the fire alarm and all the boys dutifully assembled in the yard. Suddenly around the corner in the yard Santa Claus arrived, not on a sleigh, but in an Irish Army tank. It was a brilliant sight and the roar of approval from all the boys showed that they thought so too.
Santa Claus was escorted by soldiers from the Irish Army based in Custume Barracks, Athlone who were in armoured vehicles. Santa Claus took the time to greet all the boys in the yard. When the boys returned to class Santa Claus brought each and every boy a goody bag. He was helped in this by the very kind soldiers.
